We are delighted to announce the expansion of our criminal law team at our Corporation Street offices in Birmingham. Purcell Parker’s team of 14 solicitors and advocates deal with a range of criminal offences in Coventry, Leamington and Wolverhampton as well as Birmingham including motoring offences, fraud and Very High Costs Cases (VHCC).
Appearing at Crown Court
One of our defence solicitors, Charmaine Robinson, was recently granted her Higher Rights of Audience which enables her to appear in the Crown Court as a solicitor advocate.
A solicitor advocate is a qualified solicitor who carries out additional training and examinations enabling them to specialise in higher court work, like a barrister.
Charmaine, who qualified as a solicitor in 2010, joined the firm in 2015. “Being granted Higher Rights of Audience enables me to take on a wider range of cases and see them through from start to finish,” she explains. “This has significant advantages for the client as they deal with one legal representative who knows the details of their case really well.”
Appearing at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court
Shivali Patel, who began working at Purcell Parker in 2013, also recently qualified as a solicitor, having gained significant experience in the firm’s Crown Court department. Shivali is now also representing clients at the Magistrates’ Court as an advocate, and hopes to move on to practice in the Crown Court, having already obtained her Higher Rights of Audience.
Meeting demand for criminal defence services in Birmingham and the West Midlands
“We are delighted by both Charmaine’s and Shivali’s successes which are a real testament to their hard work and commitment to further training,” comments Spencer Stephens, Managing Director at Purcell Parker. “By expanding our pool of solicitors and advocates, it also enables us to meet high levels of demand for criminal defence across a range of legal areas from white collar crime through to motoring offences.”
Set up in 1979, Purcell Parker is one of the largest legal aid practices in the West Midlands. We specialise in criminal litigation and white collar crime and also have a prison law department.
